Continuing the story 40 years from the original release, “Halloween” is the latest entry in the classic horror film franchise, which once again stars Jamie Lee Curtis. Ignoring all its sequels, “Halloween” follows Laurie Strode (Curtis) dealing with being the sole survivor of a mass murder massacre on the infamous holiday when she was a teenager. As an adult she has become reclusive and cautious, patiently awaiting the return of Michael Myers, a masked figure frequently referred to as the boogeyman. Judy Greer plays Karen, Strode’s daughter and the voice of reason, urging her mother to let go of the past and embrace the future. With time, however, the mounting body count and concern Myers has escaped captivity brings Sheriff Hawkins (Will Patton) into the fold, looking to avoid another nightmare. Written and directed by David Gordon Green, whose previous works include “Pineapple Express,” he aims to bring terror and suspense back to the genre by showcasing tension and relying less on jump scares. “Halloween” also reintroduces the iconic score by the first film’s director John Carpenter. The return of Michael Myers brings one of the most legendary horror figures in history to a new audience, with evil finally coming home to Haddonfield, Illinois.
